Types Of Labeling Supplies
Continuous Vinyl Tapes - this is the most common label material. It provides excellent duralability and can be printed using thermal transfer printing. Rolls of vinyl are available in a variety of widths, ranging up to 24 inches and greater. Typically the largest labeling machines use tapes up to four inches in width. The largerwidths are used in vinyl cutters fr making signs.
In general the thicker the vinyl tape, the more durable it will. Thinner tapes have the advantage of conforming better to curved or irregular surfaces.
Vinyl tapes are available with various types of adhesives. The standard is a permanent adhesive that provides long label life. However, vinyl tapes are available with adhesives that allow labels to be removed and reapplied in a new location. These are called repositionable tapes. There are also special adhesives that are designed to work at low temperatures, allowing labelsto be applied at temperatures as low as -10 degrees F.
Die-Cut Labels - these are adhesive-backed labels that have been made to specific dimensions. Examples of die-cut and continuous vinyl labels are shown above. The upper labels are die-cut. They have been made to a 4" x 6" dimension and come with a preprinted header. The lower labels are contiuous vinyl. Single color vinyl is on the lower left and two-color vinyl on the lower right. Labels made using continuous vinyl do not have a preset size.
Die-cut labels typically have rounded corners. This not only provides a more professional looking label, it has technical advantages. The weakest point on a label is at the corner. Labels typically will start peeling up from the corners. The rounded corners od die-cut labels help to prevent the corners from coming loose.
One of the advantages of die-cut labels is that they provide multicolor labels that can be printed by a monochrome printer. You do not need to have the added costs of a color printer. The RTK label shown to the left is a three color label. The printer adds the black text and numbers, printing them in the appropriate locations on the label.
Other Types Of Supplies - there are many other specialty labeling supplies. This includes supplies for labeling wires and cables, glow-in-the-dark tapes, reflective tapes and tapes made from materials such as polyester. Please feel free to give us a call and discuss your labeling needs. We'll be glad to help you determine the best supplies for your needs.
